SHEITAN is one crazy film. It is an infective madness that carries you along for a wild ride. Vincent Cassell (who is married to the wildy beautiful Monica Bellucci) plays Joseph, a crazy caretaker of a big house in the country. Cassell is one of the best things about the film. SHEITAN means Devil. SHEITAN starts with three young men partying at a club in Paris. They decide to go out to the country with two beautiful chicks on Christmas Eve. One of the women has a big house in the country. One of the men, Bart, notices Joseph is deranged. It is like Joseph doesn't have all of his marbles in his head. Then you have the unseen pregnant wife of Joseph and some of the crazy young people in the village including Joseph's crazy niece who has a thing for Bart. Odd things start to happen before and after their dinner with Joseph. During dinner, Joseph talks about the devil. By the way, the chick who owns the house isn't who she appears to be. Could she be in with whatever Joseph has planned for Bart? SHEITAN is wild cocktail of energy that deserves to be seen and more films like it should be made in the USA. Vincent Cassell looks like a country hick who would fit in with Crocodile Dundee and his mates Down Under. He looks very different from his roles in previous films. The horror in SHEITAN isn't revealed until near the end as it smacks you right in the face. It goes to show you that France is making some of the most interesting films in the world today.
As for the extras, the trailer is in anamorphic widescreen and the 14 minute THE MAKING OF SHEITAN makes me like the film even more. Star Cassel talks through it as he explains how he got involved with the people that would make SHEITAN and how he put it together. Lots of fun behind-the-scenes pre-production and production footage highlight the featurette. It's not one to mess. When Cassel says the films starts off as funny and turns to sexy and becomes scary at the end, he's damn right. Watch SHEITAN for one hell of a film out now from TARTAN VIDEO.
